Born 1932. Became 'Major Exhibitioner' at the age of 16.
Then to Nottingham College of Art, University of Nottingham and L'ecole des Beaux Arts. Winner of both 'Stanley Grimm' and 'Cornellison' prizes at the annual exhibition of The Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

His obvious talent, his powers of draughtsmanship and his ability to use his pigments to gain absolute control of atmospherics and colour, these are all qualities that place Lawrie very much at the opposite end of the scale in terms of today’s Art establishment.
