Located in the popular market town of Helmsley in Yorkshire, Helmsley Galleries is situated within the fabulous Feversham Arms Hotel

Since starting our new gallery in Helmsley in 2013 we have felt very fortunate in having moved our base to this lovely spot in Yorkshire. When we were offered gallery space within one of the town’s main hotels we jumped at the idea, as it gave us an opportunity to have a base in Yorkshire while still maintaining a presence in the south with regular trips to London.

So Helmsley Galleries was started, exhibiting exclusively within the Feversham Arms Hotel. This offers a great gallery space with many paintings in natural room settings. Our extensive collection features works by highly respected & award winning artists from around the UK as well as introducing the work of new artists.

There is also the added advantage that the hotels offer great accommodation and award winning restaurants, all in-house.

David Atkins, Landcape Artist

We are pleased to announce that the highly acclaimed landscape painter David Atkins has agreed to exhibit with us at Helmsley Galleries.  

David Atkins’ career initially took off after a meeting with the well known art critic Brian Sewell who was full of praise for David’s paintings:

David Atkins has established himself as an evocative painter of landscapes ... His is a broad brush, the sweep and colour of it bold and clear

Sewell was insistent that David should have a major solo exhibition in London which resulted in a series of one-man shows at the Albemarle Gallery in Mayfair from 2002 – 2013.

David Atkins has exhibited with other top UK galleries as well as with the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of Marine Artists at the Mall Galleries in London. He has been awarded numerous prizes including the Horan prize for Painting at the NEAC the Façade International Prize for Painting at the Discerning Eye Exhibition and the Baltic Exchange Prize 2018 for painting in the RMSA Exhibition at the Mall Galleries London.

The Best Market Town in the UK

So it’s no surprise to us to discover that Helmsley figures in the latest Sunday Times “Best Places to Live” guide.

Locations in the guide were selected for offering the best quality of life to the widest number of people, and combining desirable features such as a positive community spirit, good local shops and services and attractive outdoor spaces. The Sunday Time guide lists Helmsley as one of the best market towns in Britain, confirming the town’s selection last year for the “Great British High Street's Best Market Town” award last year.

There are wonderful independent shops, galleries, an Art Centre, cafes, restaurants and pubs on our doorstep and all just on the edge of the stunning North York Moors National Park.
